António Pinto Basto

Born in Alentejo, he showed a great taste for music early on, in particular traditional songs and Fado.

From 1974 to 1988 he took the opportunity not to record, taking the opportunity to mature without ever failing to perform in public, both in Portugal and abroad. In 1988 he finally decided to record his first LP “Rosa Branca”. The success was immediate and dazzling, crowned by a tour of more than 120 concerts in 1989, at the end of which the double LP “Maria” would be released. In October 1994, he was invited by the Cultural Institute of Macau to be a soloist on a tour that the Chinese Orchestra of Macau was going to carry out in Portugal. In early 1996 he released “Desde o Berço”.

In the years that followed, he recorded two albums, in 2002 and 2003, respectively “Rendas Pretas” and “Letras do Fado Vulgar”. In 2004 he founded the group Quatro Cantos, together with Maria Armanda, José da Câmara and Teresa Tapadas. In December 2007, new work, “Bodas de Coral” which marks his return to the traditional Fado line. In 2010 he released “Prata da Casa” in which he made a compilation of all his songs.
