Born in Lisbon, Parish of Santa Justa, since he was a little boy, he began to awaken an interest in music. At the age of 7, he started taking piano lessons and at the age of 9, he was invited to represent Colégio Príncipe Carlos e Princesa Ana, which he attended at the time, in a CD commemorating the institution’s 50th anniversary.
When he entered the Colégio Militar (CM) at the age of 10, he never left music. Right from the 1st year in this bisecular institution, he was part of the Orfeão de Alunos where numerous shows appeared in which he participated playing the piano, organ, classical guitar and singing.
Alongside the instruments, Gustavo proved to be a fado singer, following in the footsteps of his father, António Pinto Basto, performing in public for the first time at the age of 15 in a fado house in Lisbon. Since then, he began to participate in numerous shows with great fado voices, including: Rodrigo, Vicente da Câmara, José da Câmara, Maria João Quadros, Teresa Tapadas and, of course, his own father. Currently, not forgetting Fado in any way, Gustavo has been experimenting with other styles, namely participating in the musical Rock «1906 – O Nosso Grande Amor» by Pedro Madeira Rogrigues, staged by Matilde Trocado and Musical Direction by Hugo Reis, who was in scene in January 2012, at the Tivoli theater in Lisbon. He is also studying Jazz and Modern Music at Universidade Lusíada in Lisbon.
But his passion and devotion goes entirely to Fado, where he is expected to reveal himself as yet another great voice of the national song.
