Alfredo Almeida is a Portuguese guitarist from São Miguel Island, Azores, whose musical journey began at the Conservatory of Ponta Delgada, where he studied piano before focusing on classical guitar. From an early age, he developed a deep connection with traditional Azorean music, which continues to influence his artistic identity and musical expression.
In 2010, Alfredo Almeida further expanded his musical training at JBJazz in Lisbon, studying with renowned musicians and educators including Ricardo Barriga, Pedro Pinto, Pedro Madaleno, Luís Cunha, Joel Silva, and Paula Oliveira.
He later earned a degree in Classical Guitar from ESART – Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco, under the guidance of Professor Miguel Carvalhinho. During his academic studies, he participated in masterclasses with internationally respected guitarists and musicians such as Enno Voorhorst, Adriano Del Sal, Aniello Desiderio, Fábio Zanon, Yamandu Costa, and Graham Devine.
Throughout his professional career, Alfredo Almeida has been involved in several artistic projects connected to Portuguese music, live performance, and fado. He is a member of Projeto Alba alongside tenor Bruno Almeida and Portuguese guitarist Luís Coelho, exploring a fusion of traditional and contemporary Portuguese sounds.
He also performed in the musical “Na Bagunça do teu Coração” produced by YellowStar Company, and participated in “Saudade”, a contemporary dance production presented by Quorum Ballet.
Alongside his performance career, Alfredo Almeida teaches music at private educational institutions and performs regularly in traditional Lisbon fado venues, including Lisboa em Fado and Tasca do Chico.
In addition to his musical career, he also holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico.
